Millsboro is a small town in Sussex County, Delaware. It is located 10 miles north of the Maryland state border and sits along the banks of Millsboro Pond which flows into Indian River Bay. Millsboro was populated by almost 4,300 people in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau.
Millsboro is located in a region of the United States that inhabited by Native American Indians before the arrivals of European peoples. In 1792, a gentleman named Elisha Dickerson constructed a dam to cut off the headwaters of the Indian River. Following the completion of his dam, he constructed a gristmill and sawmill. Individuals began arriving in the area and it became known as Rock Hole Mills. The name was changed to Millsborough in 1809 and again to Millsboro about 30 years later. The community became incorporated in 1893.
Modern-day Millsboro is a wonderful place to live. According to the town’s website, “Millsboro enjoys the highest growth rate of any municipality in inland Sussex County.” Residents of the town enjoy a low crime and tax rate and easy access to community facilities and amenities. In 2018, the town celebrated the grand-opening of a Chick-fil-a, another milestone in its continued growth. In Millsboro, residents enjoy the benefits of one of the fastest growing towns in Sussex County.
